In the United States, Veterans Day is a special day – a day to Remember, to Honor, and to Thank those who have selflessly gone whenever and wherever they were called. In Europe, this day is commemorated as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day, commemorating the end of the World War I. Post 605 is unique in the size of its footprint – although the Post is headquartered in France, its members span numerous countries and U.S States. As such, the Post had a global Veteran’s Day celebration.

Mark Primmer of Paris, France, was elected Sunday as department commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Department of Europe. He was installed by Past VFW Commander-in-Chief Paul Spera, and will lead the 15,000+ combat veterans of the European VFW for the next year.

Celebrating the birthday of one of our nation's founding fathers and the first U.S. Ambassador to France, Paris veterans honored the man called the "first American" whose name we include in the full title of our post - the Benjamin Franklin VFW Post 605.

Thanksgiving is a time of togetherness and gratitude. Our American traditions of celebrating Thanksgiving are rooted in the spirit of unity and charity. Remembering this, the Benjamin Franklin VFW Post 605 organized a community wide Thanksgiving Dinner celebration at the Ecole Militaire in Paris on November 24th.
On this 21st anniversary of 9/11, we paused to reflect on the terror attacks on our country, our fellow Americans that were killed, and the self-sacrifice of so many heroes born from Sept. 11, 2001.

On August 18, 2022, Benjamin Franklin VFW Post 605 Paris proudly supported the French non-profit organization, Remembering Americans in Europe, in dedicating a monument honoring the 1st Ranger Battalion on the beach in Dieppe, Normandy, France.
