How VFW Post 605 Is Shaping Tomorrow’s Leaders

On a quiet afternoon in Paris, members of VFW Post 605 gathered, not to talk about past missions, but to plan for the future. Their focus was on young Americans living overseas, children of service members, diplomats, and civilians, growing up far from home. These youth need guidance, structure, and a sense of belonging. The veterans knew Scouting could provide it.

On 27 July, VFW Post 605 Commander Timothy Povich travelled to Versailles to join 50 veterans from Germany, Canada, France and the United States for the final stage of the Project Hero 2025 European Challenge.


Independence Day Commemoration XVIe arrondissement de Paris

At the July 4th commemoration organised by the Mairie du 16, VFW Post 605 Commander Timothy Povich, along with the American Legion Paris Post 1 Commander Bryan Schell, reminded participants that without France there would be no United States, and without the United States, there would be no France. We are inseparable partners in liberty, the oldest of democratic republics, brothers in arms, sisters in the rule of law.

In the United States, Veterans Day is a special day – a day to Remember, to Honor, and to Thank those who have selflessly gone whenever and wherever they were called. In Europe, this day is commemorated as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day, commemorating the end of the World War I. Post 605 is unique in the size of its footprint – although the Post is headquartered in France, its members span numerous countries and U.S States. As such, the Post had a global Veteran’s Day celebration.


Post 605 Commander Elected to Lead the Department of Europe

Mark Primmer of Paris, France, was elected Sunday as department commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Department of Europe. He was installed by Past VFW Commander-in-Chief Paul Spera, and will lead the 15,000+ combat veterans of the European VFW for the next year.


Annual Banquet Strengthens Franco-American Veteran Community

Benjamin Franklin Post 605 Paris, France welcomed over 60 guests to its Annual Banquet held at the Palais du Luxembourg, Paris for a wonderful evening of Franco-American unity with participants from the Union Nationale des Combattants / section d'Issy-les-Moulineaux, VFW Auxiliary, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts.


Remembering WWII B-17 Crew That Perished Saving French City

Benjamin Franklin VFW Post 605 stood with U.S. Ambassador Mrs. Denise Campbell Bauer today in the 79th commemorative ceremony in remembrance of a B-17 that crashed in Wissous, France; just outside of Paris near the Orly Airport.

Thanksgiving is a time of togetherness and gratitude. Our American traditions of celebrating Thanksgiving are rooted in the spirit of unity and charity. Remembering this, the Benjamin Franklin VFW Post 605 organized a community wide Thanksgiving Dinner celebration at the Ecole Militaire in Paris on November 24th.
